I've never quite been able to follow this advice; if I think a passage is particularly fine, I'm much more inclined to leave it where it is!

    Janna, I know! Those nice little passages are the bits that warm the cockles of this writer's heart!

    Maria Pauline, I would be inclined to think otherwise, too -- but I think his point is that what we (as writers) tend to deceive ourselves in our partiality for our own writing. At least, I'm partial to my writing ;)
