Words of Wisdom From Writers

"Read over your compositions, and when you meet a passage which you think is particularly fine,
strike it out
."

~ Samuel Johnson

I've never quite been able to follow this advice; if I think a passage is particularly fine, I'm much more inclined to leave it where it is!

  1. Oh, that's cruel. Those nice little passages? Strike them OUT? Mercy! Have mercy! ;o)

  3. Hello,
You don't know me, but I've been reading your blog for a while. I LOVE to sew! I just started a new crafting blog and am finding other people who enjoy crafting( sewing, decorating, etc.) as well. Can I add you to my blog roll?

  4. Janna, I know! Those nice little passages are the bits that warm the cockles of this writer's heart!

Maria Pauline, I would be inclined to think otherwise, too -- but I think his point is that what we (as writers) tend to deceive ourselves in our partiality for our own writing. At least, I'm partial to my writing ;)

Aly, "Welcome!" Thanks, I'd love to be on your blog roll!

    Yours in Christ,
    Shannon
