Déjà Vu

You know the feeling.

Well, this skirt has some definite Déjà vu vibes. It started here almost three years ago. I've now discovered that that particular skirt style is totally impractical for a mom in a windy vicinity -- it's definitely a two-hander in gusty neighborhoods (like parking lots), and I usually have a baby carrier in one hand and a diaper bag in the other (especially in parking lots).

I decided to try remaking the skirt into my favorite A-line style (OOP Butterick 3262), and it worked!

Cutting the yoke off significantly shortened it, though, so I added on a ruffle with the scraps I still had (yes, still had after three years. I have problems). Not wanting anything too complicated, I cut my ruffle on a semi-bias (not enough fabric for a true bias!), ran a line of gathering stitches, and zig-zagged it right on top of the skirt. The off-grain cut keeps it from fraying too much, while giving it a bit of casual flair.

Sometimes Déjà vu can be frustrating. But not this time.

Skirting the Issue

As I've been trying to reconstruct my post-baby nursing-friendly wardrobe, I've discovered that I'm in desperate need of some new skirts. And since I've been blessed to find several good black shirts recently, I decided it was time to make something to go with them.

So I dove into my stash and came up with two rayon (I think) fabrics. I bought these about seven years ago off the Walmart $1-per-yard rack. I made a dress out of each fabric, and had a little over a yard left over. The dresses are long gone, but the fabric was patiently waiting for me.

So out with OOP Butterick 3262, and a bit of cutting and sewing later, I'm all set.

Light, flowy, and ruffled.

I love how simple this pattern is, and I also love the results.

Destashing, wardrobe-building, and sewing -- sounds good to me!

Baby Gator

Pablo's undergrad and grad degrees are from University of Florida, so when our fellow UF alumni friends recently had a baby, I thought some team spirit was in order! Little Man has a matching set.

Little soft shoes in gator fabric with orange Ric Rac and suede-like soles, a (purchased) onesie with "UF" embroidered on the chest, and a burp cloth trimmed with more gator fabric and Ric Rac. All tied up in an orange bow. Of course.

Won't it be ironic if this little fellow goes to FSU?

For those of you who aren't in the loop (i.e., everyone not in Florida), there's more than a little rivalry between the two universities!
