If You're a Seamstress...

...then you absolutely must read this:

~ Care and Feeding of the Fabric Stash

I came across this delectable tidbit as I was browsing (again) through the archives of Anna's delightful blog, Pleasant View Schoolhouse.

One of the reasons that I am posting this is that I recently made some excellent finds in the Wal-Mart clearance section, which means that I broke my "I-will-not-buy-fabric-unless-I-absolutely-have-to" pledge...again. But reading Anna's post reassured me that my stash was hungry and needed to be fed.

And when it's only $1 a yard...

  1. Oh, to funny! I understand about that pledge...
A stamp collector does not feel the need to lick their stamps and send them off. A coin collector does not spend the coins they have. So a seamstress should not feel the need to use ALL her fabric. Right?

  2. Joyann -- I like the way you think ;) I do plan to use all of it...some day!

  3. I'm laughing at you... and yet I'm looking forward to starting my own stash in the next few months. (It's rather difficult to convince my mother to buy fabric...)

  4. Of course!:) You simply can't pass by the dollar a yard table and not buy anything, can you? We have a whole drawer crammed with nothing but Walmart fabric.:)

    I love it.

  5. That was so cute! I suffer from a small stash storage space, so can't keep a large stash. Also, mine is fed by the good intentions of my Grandma and several of her friends. It is kind of nice that I don't have to buy fabric, but I loose the pleasure of stroking and eyeballing fabric. ;(

I do get some nice pieces of hand me down material, though!

Have a very bright, very cheerful day!

  6. Maria Pauline, I'm laughing at me, too ;)

Emma, it's amazing what you can find at Wal-Mart. 95% of it is trash (I wonder why on earth they make such horrendous fabric!), but there's that 5% of treasure :)

Miss Eyebright, hand-me-down fabric is great! Although I would miss the "feeling" part, too!
