Oh to be in England!
Today marks the one-year anniversary of my family's return from our visit to England last summer. In honor of the day, I've added a link to my travelblogue in the sidebar.
Oh to be in England!
Over the past few months, I've found myself going back and browsing through the chronicle of our trip. It's a strange mixture of pain and pleasure -- reliving it makes me ache with longing, but at the same time I delight in recapturing the smallest recollection of our visit. I still haven't figured out why I love England so much. Because I lived there when I was little? Because it is the home of my favorite authors? Because it is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful places on earth? I have a feeling it's a mixture of many things, but whatever the reasons (trivial or not) -- I do love it dearly!
I'm just now moving beyond a virtual scrapbook and starting a real one! As you can see, I never procrastinate... *cough*

Shannon, we were in England at almost the same time! I was heading From London to France when you were headed to London. It was such an amazing trip. I loved the tube and "Cockfosters" was one of my favorite words.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget to "Mind the Gap!"
I'm getting ready to bind my photo album from the trip and I found some great paper. Here's the link:

and

Keri, that's amazing! "Cockfosters" really is a fabulous name. I loved riding that line just to hear it :) Thanks so much for the link -- that paper is absolutely splendid.

Shannon
I understand the tug at the ol' heartstrings! I have no idea what it is about that country, either. I just love it.
ReplyDeleteWelcome home! :-)
That's neat that you used to live in England! Do you remember living there? ::sigh:: I have always wished to visit that place... =)
ReplyDeleteA few months ago I 'found' your travelblogue and read practically all of it. I really enjoyed seeing how close to us you passed on your travels! :D
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing your photos from your recent travels around the USA.
In Christ,
Jerusha
Shannon, hello. My name is Melissa and I just love your blog. You have inspired me to take up sewing again.. and reminded me that modesty is beauty of holiness. I would like to ask you to consider doing a post on feminisim, and your beliefs. I am a pastor's wife at an Independent Baptist church but find your words of wisdom to be so grounded and settled. I am a mother of 4 and married for 10 years, but I am not above learning in Christ. Thanks so much for sharing your walk of life with us and thanks for the pictures too.
ReplyDeleteIn Christ alone, Melissa
My mom lived in England as a kid and she loves it. She gets emotional just talking about it.
ReplyDeleteShannon, thanks so much for sharing the pictures from your trip, I greatly enjoyed looking through them. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Shannon! Welcome home! I enjoyed reading your England blog, and am looking forward to hearing about your more recent travels. If you ever get a chance to visit England again let me know, I'd love to meet you : D

*sigh* I seemed doomed in life to pass within a few miles of bloggy friends on my travels, without even knowing they're there! :) Of course, I hadn't really started my blog last year... but I guarantee that if I ever make it back to England, I'll make sure to post it! :)
ReplyDeleteLaura, I thought you would understand "the tug," too :)
Cheri, I can remember a fair amount of England, but I was only six when we left.
Melissa, thank you for your kind words! I will certainly consider your request!
Yours in Christ,
Shannon
