"Precious, no doubt, are these little ones in your eyes; but if you love them, think often of their souls....
No part of them should be so dear to you as that part which will never die. The world, with all its glory, shall pass away; the hills shall melt....
But the spirit which dwells in those little creatures, whom you love so well, shall outlive them all....
In every step you take about them, in every plan, and scheme, and arrangement that concerns them, do not leave out the mighty question,
'How will this affect their souls?’"
J.C. Ryle, quoted in The Disciple-Making Parent: A Comprehensive Guidebook for Raising Your Children to Love and Follow Jesus Christ, by Chap Bettis
Yes, children are a blessed precious gift from the LORD that we as parents are entrusted to raise for HIS glory and service. The most important question for any soul is, "where will you spend eternity, heaven or hell?" This time on earth is a second compared to eternity.
ReplyDeleteRemember, children learn most from what is caught versus taught. Our walk must match our talk.
May the LORD JESUS CHRIST lead and grant wisdom to your husband and you as you both strive to raise your children for HIS glory.
May you have a blessed weekend.

Amen to that, Carie! It is so easy to get caught up in good, but not *best* pursuits as we raise our kids. And so true that children learn by imitation, not just from what we "preach" to them. There's nothing scarier than watching your own sin emerge in your kids... How grateful I am that Jesus is far greater than my inadequacy!
